History of Sri Pattabhirama Seva Mandali

Jai Shree Ram!

Sri Pattabhirama Seva Mandali started as a humble forum of 13 members in the year 1962 in Tayappanahalli of Jayanagar residential layout. The members would conduct Bhajan sessions every week and an annual Rama Navami celebration in the lunar month of Chaitra. Over the years, as people moved into this wonderful residential locality, the membership of the Mandali increased. In the year 1965, with the blessings of Lord Rama and the goodwill of the members and residents, a plot of 100 X85 feet was procured from the Bangalore Development Authority. It was decided to build a temple under the auspices of Lord Rama and the foundation stone was laid in the year 1966. With the kind donations and support of many members, the temple construction was completed on Rama Navami day, the 27th of March 1969.Sri Sri Shivaganga Mathadheeshwara inaugurated the three sections of the temple- Rama-Lakshmana- Seetha, Siddhi Vinayaka and Maruthi- Krishna.

With the sincere and selfless efforts of the members of the Mandali and the devotion of the priests, the activities of the temple continued uninterrupted with daily puja and the annual Ramanavami celebrations. In the year 1970, Sri Shringeshwara Shastry arrived at the temple and brought about many important changes in the temple’s functioning and activities. With the support and kind donations of the members and devotees, Navagrahas were installed in the year 1970. The Vimana gopura kumbhabhishekha took place in the year 1972. Quarters for the resident priests were constructed in the year 1975. Uma-Maheshwara Swamy temple was constructed in the year 1976. The elaborate Rajagopura was constructed in the year 1980. The sculptor Sri Veerappachari created this magnificent gopuram with idols of Shiva at one end and idols of Vishnu at the other. During the following years, the Vaikuntha dwaram, Subramanya Swamy temple, Girija Kalyana Mantapam etc were added to the temple complex.

Over the last 3 decades, many additions have been made to enhance the beauty and functionality of the temple. The temple is now an abode of peace, devotion and serenity and attracts many devotees not only from Jayanagar but all over Bangalore. The true spirit of devotion, selfless service and continuous refinement echoes in the walls of this 60-year-old exquisite temple. The Mandali and its members tirelessly work towards successfully planning and conducting many different religious activities throughout the year. The Maha Shivaratri celebrations and the Rama Navami celebrations attract thousands of devotees from across the city. One experiences true bliss and devotion in this abode of the Lord. Many families feel blessed to organise their important functions in this temple complex. The comprehensive services, austere rituals, tradition of Vedic mastery and the sumptuous prasadam make for a blissful and satisfying experience.
